The abortion procedure is approximately 10 to 15 minutes. This consists of a suction procedure to remove the pregnancy. You may experience mild to moderate cramping during and after the abortion along with some bleeding. You will be monitored for 15 minutes following your procedure until you and your care provider feel you are ready to leave.
  • It is encouraged that you to eat sometime before you come in as taking medications on an empty stomach can increase nausea.
  • Please wear loose fitting clothing and underwear compatible with a maxi pad.
  • We ask that you do not use any drugs or alcohol on the day of the appointment. Continue to take prescription medications as prescribed.
  • If you have an inhaler, please bring that with you to the clinic.
  • If you plan to elect to have minimal sedation for your procedure, you will need to have someone drive you home. If you plan on having minimal sedation and using public transportation or a transportation service after your procedure (such as a taxi, Lyft, or Uber), you must have a support person to accompany you. This is for your safety – minimal sedation affects everyone differently and you may feel sleepy or dizzy for 6 – 8 hours after taking the medication.
    • If a support person accompanies you to the appointment, please have them wait outside.
  • If you have any children at home, we request that they do not accompany you to this appointment due to the long visit length.
  • If you are more than 10 minutes late to the appointment, there is no guarantee that you will be seen.
    • The health center will do their best to accommodate you, however, the appointment may need to be rescheduled.
    • Give yourself plenty of time to get to the health center.
