Planned Parenthood of Northern New England is proud to provide two ways to greatly reduce the risk of HIV: PrEP and PEP.
PrEP stands for pre-exposure prophylaxis, and it's a way for people at the greatest risk of getting HIV to prevent it by taking a daily pill. The pill is called Truvada. When PrEP is taken consistently, it's been show to reduce the risk of HIV infection by 92%! Planned Parenthood of Northern New England is proud to offer PrEP and prescriptions for Truvada!
Interested in starting PrEP? Call 1-866-476-1321 to setup an appointment.
PEP stands for post-exposure prophylaxis, and unlike PrEP, this is a medicine you take after an exposure to HIV to prevent becoming infected. It must be taken within 72 hours of an exposure. PEP may be right for people who believe they were exposed to HIV through sex, shared needles, or if they were the victim of sexual assault.
