Dear Friends,
So much has happened in the past few weeks that we are still trying to fully understand. When the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, it stripped millions of individuals from the body autonomy we have known for nearly 50 years. More than 10 states have already banned abortion, most before a person even knows they are pregnant. But we are fighting back.
Planned Parenthood and our partners are challenging these bans in court and will not stop fighting until these bans are reversed and each person has the ability to decide what is best for them and then access the sexual and reproductive health care they need, without traveling hundreds or thousands of miles, and without fear of criminal charges. At PPHP we have been preparing for this situation and are ready to provide care to those who need it, regardless of which state they live in. We will not turn anyone away and our doors will stay open for everyone who needs us.
I know we may feel safe because we are in New York and our state government is working to protect and expand access to sexual and reproductive health care, including abortion care, but many of us have family and friends in states restricting access, or you may have a child going to college in one of these states. This is personal for all of us, and I thank you for standing with us in this fight. We could not do it without you.
To get the latest information, follow us on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram to learn what is happening at PPHP and issues related to sexual and reproductive health care. Please share our posts so your friends and family stay informed as well. Thank you for your continued support of PPHP.
In this together,
Vincent Russell
President & CEO
Abortion is Still Safe and Legal
Abortion is still safe and legal in New York. If a person decides to have an abortion, they can come to one of our health centers or another provider in the state. At PPHP, medication abortion is available at our 10 health centers and procedural abortion is available at two health centers.
In addition to abortion care, we provide a wide range of sexual and reproductive health care for all women, men, transgender, gender nonconforming, and non-binary patients. This includes birth control, emergency contraception, gynecological care, prenatal care, gender affirming care, vasectomy care, testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections, HIV prevention, testing, and care, HPV vaccination, and more. We provide these services regardless of a person’s age, race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, immigration status, and ability to pay.

Expanding Our Education Programs
In our continuing efforts to expand our reach to young people in our communities, our Education and Training team received a one-day training from Young Adult Institute (YAI) to better serve people with intellectual and developmental delays and disabilities (I/DD). The training focused on how to adapt our current education curricula, and facilitation skills, as well as how to advocate for the I/DD community. We are excited to be able to offer our sexual and reproductive health lessons to individuals who need them so they are able to make educated decisions about their bodies.
Our team also participated in outreach events at the Yorktown Pride, Summer Youth Fest, LOFT Pride, Mount Vernon Health Fair, and TRI Long Island. As of June 2022, we have reached 1,947 individuals through 21 outreach programs. We look forward to participating in more throughout the summer!
As we are halfway through this year, our Education and Training team has reached 2,082 young people through 312 programs across the four counties we serve, which includes Spanish programming and programming for youth with intellectual and developmental delays and disabilities. We have facilitated educational programs and workshops on topics such as consent, reproductive health media literacy, contraception, STI’s, reproductive life planning, and so much more. Our Personal Responsibility Education Program (PREP) team has been facilitating Evidence Based Programs (EBP’s) in Suffolk County as well as hosting a monthly Food and Game Night event for teens.

Storytellers help others to understand who they are and why it's important to take action to protect our rights and access. With sexual and reproductive health care under constant attack, we have found that sharing these stories is an effective tool to raise awareness about the central health care role that Planned Parenthood plays in communities.
Planned Parenthood supporters and patients have stories to tell and want to speak up! Your story can be about any sexual and reproductive health care and education experience – from birth control to abortion; from annual gynecological care to gender affirming care to your experience with sex education.
If you would like to share your story, visit https://www.weareplannedparenthood.org/a/pphp-share-your-pp-story, complete the form, and a PPHP team member will reach out to you with more information and ways to share your story.
