Statement by Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas President & CEO Ken Lambrecht:

"To protect our patients’ access to the full range of reproductive healthcare in the long run, and to prepare for the impact of Texas's controversial new abortion law, Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas is today publicly announcing the launch of our current initiative to ensure that Texas women can continue to access the healthcare they need—regardless of their income level or ZIP code."

Specifically, the Building Our Future Fund will allow Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas to:

  • Establish a Patient Assistance Fund to ensure that women seeking abortion services who have to travel outside of their community as a result of Texas' new abortion restrictions have access to funding for transportation and lodging costs, and contraception to help plan and space future pregnancies, and prevent unintended pregnancies.
  • Open a new health center and ambulatory surgical center (ASC) to provide safe, legal abortion services in Dallas County in compliance with Texas’ controversial abortion law, which mandates that abortions be provided in an ASC setting as of September 1, 2014. Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas is planning to provide abortion services at a new health center and ASC in South Dallas later this summer.
  • Invest in existing Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas health centers to ensure that patients continue to have access to affordable annual exams, birth control, breast and cervical cancer screenings, HIV tests, screenings and treatment for sexually transmitted infections, and other essential preventive care. This investment enables Planned Parenthood to renovate, consolidate, relocate, or update health centers as needed.
