OVERLAND PARK, KS — Planned Parenthood of Kansas and Mid-Missouri today responded to Governor Brownback’s announcement of his intention to tour the state on Tuesday, April 28, performing ceremonial signings of Senate Bill 95. Laura McQuade, Planned Parenthood of Kansas and Mid-Missouri CEO, said:

“Governor Brownback continues to make Kansas an outlier on issues both social and fiscal. His ideological determination to restrict women’s access to their constitutionally guaranteed rights is harmful for women, shameful for all Kansans, and does nothing to distract from the state’s serious economic and social problems created by his policies,” she said.

By banning the safest method of second trimester abortion, Governor Brownback has put women’s lives and health at risk. Kansas women deserve access to safe, high quality health care, not barriers, condemnation, or judgment from politicians. Rather than spending the day traveling the state touting an extreme abortion restriction opposed by medical authorities nationwide, Governor Brownback should focus on making Kansas a better place for women and families.”
