OVERLAND PARK – Planned Parenthood Great Plains (PPGP) is celebrating the end of Sam Brownback's disastrous tenure as Kansas governor. Governor Brownback was an ideological extremist who played games with the lives of everyday Kansans for his own political gain. He wasted his time in office executing failed attacks on the high-quality and compassionate health care services that Planned Parenthood Great Plains provides, instead of focusing on improving the lives of the state’s citizens.

"It is a shame that in today's political climate someone with a radical and damaging track record like Governor Brownback can still be promoted to the world stage. Despite Brownback's continued political attacks against sexual and reproductive health care, Planned Parenthood Great Plains' doors are wide open and we are seeing more patients than ever before. We will continue to serve Kansans better than Brownback ever did, even now that he has left Kansas struggling to recover from his failed leadership," Planned Parenthood Great Plains Interim President and CEO, Aaron Samulcek said.

According to a 2016 poll from Public Policy Polling, 61% of Kansans support state and federal funding for Planned Parenthood and 53% of Kansans said they would be less likely to vote for a politician who didn’t support funding for Planned Parenthood. This poll also showed that Planned Parenthood is twice as popular with Kansans as Brownback.

While PPGP is celebrating that Brownback will no longer be able to attack Kansan women, we are concerned for our sexual and reproductive health care partners around the world, who will now be in the direct line of fire of his extreme ideology.
