SCOTUS Decisions

This June, the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) issued its ruling in Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine v. U.S. Food and Drug Administration – the case challenging the FDA’s long-standing approval of mifepristone. They ruled that mifepristone remains available for now in states where abortion is legal.

This cruel, unprecedented attempt to restrict access to abortion care nationwide had absolutely no basis in science or medicine. Mifepristone is extremely safe and effective and has been used by more than five million people since first approved over 20 years ago.

SCOTUS also issued its ruling in Idaho v. United States; Moyle v. United States, the case about whether emergency abortion care is included under the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA). The U.S. Supreme Court had the opportunity to be clear that this federal law requires emergency care for pregnant people, including abortion, in every state — regardless of a state’s abortion ban — and they chose not to. As a result, the health and lives of pregnant people across the country will continue to be at risk.

Make no mistake: SCOTUS unleashed a national reproductive health crisis when it overturned Roe v. Wade two years ago, and abortion opponents aren't stopping. Look below for ways to take action for abortion access today!

Bans Off Our Bodies

Our country is facing an abortion access crisis.

Join the Fight

Abortion is Still Legal in California

The Supreme Court has eliminated the federal constitutional right to abortion by overturning Roe v. Wade. This dangerous outcome will open the floodgates for states across the country to ban abortion.

With the Supreme Court stripping Americans of their federal constitutional rights, dozens of states can quickly move to ban abortion. We’ve already seen many states pass bans; this decision will fuel the efforts of lawmakers to ban abortion across the country.

This might seem like a scary and confusing time, but Planned Parenthood California Central Coast is here to help you understand how these laws might affect your ability to get care. We will continue to provide information and resources to help you get abortion care because your health and well-being are our highest priority, no matter where you live.
