Greetings from St. Louis! Welcome to the May update from the St. Louis Community Engagement team. Each month, I will be coming to you with news and information regarding our volunteer activities as well as highlighting ways you can get involved with Planned Parenthood.

Community Engagement Spotlight

Our volunteers kicked off Planned Parenthood’s spring/summer outreach season with tremendous success by participating in the annual St. Louis Earth Day Festival. The event was completely led by volunteers with 11 table captains managing a total of 26 volunteers. During the weekend, our team collected 620 petitions and handed out countless pieces of literature about Planned Parenthood’s health services.

Upcoming Events

Monday, May 14 - Table Captain and Messaging Training

Our St. Louis outreach season is well underway and our Outreach Volunteers have already participated in several events around the region. There is still an opportunity to become a volunteer leader in our outreach team and be trained as a Planned Parenthood Table Captain. Join other volunteers for an in-depth look at our outreach program, as well as get a guide to Planned Parenthood messaging. During this training, you will gain the skills and knowledge of conducting outreach with Planned Parenthood. To attend, please RSVP for the event here.

Planned Parenthood is gearing up for an exciting summer filled with multiple ways you can get involved as a volunteer. Are you interested in:

  • Community tabling events?
  • Health Center Advocacy?
  • Patient Escorting?

To get involved in one of these amazing programs, please reach out to Tim Williams. Not seeing something of interest? Feel free to check out our online events calendar for a rolling list of upcoming event opportunities.

Volunteer of the Month

Every month, Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region will feature one volunteer who continually goes above and beyond in their volunteer work for our patients, supporters, and advocates. This month, we are featuring Kathleen Quain.

Q: Why is it important for you to volunteer at Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region?

I volunteer at Planned Parenthood because I believe that the ability of women to control if and when they have children is so important to their independence. I wanted to be part of the movement to make sure that all women have access to family planning.

Q: Do you have a favorite volunteer experience with Planned Parenthood?

I've had the opportunity to help in the finance office, participate with the political team in canvassing, phone banks, and visit elected officials in Jefferson City. All these experiences have been rewarding and gave me the satisfaction of working towards a goal that is important to me. However, working in the abortion clinic has been the most rewarding experience. I feel that I am supporting the patients during a stressful time and helping the busy medical staff.

Q: What else would you like to share about volunteering with Planned Parenthood?

I can’t express how much I love being part of the team of compassionate people and meeting all the wonderful women who come in for services.

Tim Williams is the Hub and Community Engagement Manager for Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region and Southwest Missouri.
