As health care providers, educators and advocates, Planned Parenthood is committed to serving all people with care and respect.
At Planned Parenthood, we believe people of all gender identities deserve to lead joyful lives free of barriers, including the right to high-quality, affordable health care and accurate, relevant education and information so they can live full, healthy lives.
The unfortunate reality is that, in addition to economic and geographic barriers, transgender people face additional, unique challenges when it comes to getting the care they need. Some health care environments can be unwelcoming to transgender and nonbinary patients — from the language used on forms and in waiting rooms, to insurance coverage, to the lack of understanding of transgender identities among staff.
In Ohio, legislative attacks on trans people and particularly youth present even more systemic barriers. Most recently, an executive order is attacking access to gender-affirming care for minors in Ohio. These proposed rules only exist to stigmatize and prevent gender-affirming care and is a part of a growing national campaign to dehumanize and erase trans people.
Rules aimed at restricting access to care deny the wishes of Ohioans who have made clear they want the government out of their personal health decisions and we won’t stand for it. We hope you will join us alongside local leaders in the community to keep the conversation going and advocate for the space and rights of our transgender and nonbinary community in Ohio.
