National Women’s Health Week is May 14 - 20, 2023, and is a weeklong national health observance.

At Planned Parenthood of Southwest Ohio, we are committed to providing access to sexual health services and education. Women’s sexual health is more than preventative health care or access to birth control, it’s education, conversation and an ongoing effort. It's about feeling comfortable with your body and sexuality.

This week, we should all be encouraged to check in with ourselves and our bodies.

For a woman to maintain her sexual health, scheduling a regular gynecological screening is essential. The importance of these exams can’t be understated as they provide an early warning for cervical or ovarian cancer. It also has the ability to identify and treat STIs. Sexually active women should also consider getting vaccinated against Human Papillomavirus (HPV), which can cause health issues such as cervical cancer.

In addition to medical care, women can also benefit from seeking out resources and support for their sexual health. They can do so through sex education workshops, talking to a counselor about sexual concerns, or connecting with communities focused on women’s sexual health. At PPSWO, we are committed to supporting women and providing them with sexual health care, education, and resources.

Some of the primary services that we offer include reproductive and sexual health care. This encompasses contraception, cancer screenings, STI testing, and STI treatment. Our staff is committed to making patients feel comfortable and supported throughout their visit.

We offer sex education programs and services supporting women’s sexual health. Our programs cover a range of topics from healthy relationships to contraception. We also offer online resources and fact sheets to help women make informed decisions regarding their sexual health.

In addition to programming, folks in need can find online support resources including period tracking apps, a contraceptive finding tool, and resources for members of the LGBTQ+ community who are seeking sexual health care. Gender Affirming Care is a crucial part of women’s health that we are proud to offer at Planned Parenthood Southwest Ohio Region–check out our Gender Affirming Hormone Therapy options here.
