So you made it through Valentine’s Day…congrats! For some it was magical and romantic or just a good excuse to hustle chocolate out of a partner. For others, it was a warm reminder that your Romance Department…may be lacking. Regardless, it’s over and now we are highlighting an extremely important cause—Singles Awareness Day

Despite popular belief, the work we do is not just for those engaging in a sexual relationship with a partner. It’s for those practicing abstinence, those engaging with multiple partners and those who just do it when they feel it! No matter who you are, what you’re feeling and how you express it, we are here to care for YOU. So today we are celebrating all those singles and in celebrating—we’ve compiled a list of reasons why Singles Awareness Day should be just as a big of holiday as Valentine’s Day.

  • Half price candy! Which you do not have to share with anyone.
  • No need to buy gifts!
  • One word: Netflix. With only one opinion on what to watch.
  • Statistically, there are more single people in the world than those in relationships, so why can’t we have a day!
  • Restaurants are way less crowded on the 15th.
  • You won’t end up in someone’s proposal video by accident on the 15th.
  • You can be by yourself in PEACE.

With all the benefits that come with this celebration, it’s also important to remember that it is YOUR day! This is a day to start owning your sexuality if you haven’t already.

Why? Because your sexuality is not dependent on anyone but yourself. Your sexual wellness is in your hands. Great ways to start or enhance your sexual liberation can include:

  • Getting intimate with yourself– masturbation is super normal and totally healthy. Masturbating is a great way to learn about one’s body and there is no risk of pregnancy and STIs. Masturbating also releases tons of endorphins and reduces stress while relieving muscle tension.
  • While you’re there – check out your breasts. All bodies can benefit from breast self-awareness for early detection of cancer. Look at em’, feel em’ and check em’ to see any changes in look or feel.
  • Schedule a Pap smear– this is a super important test for finding abnormal cells on a cervix. Sexually active or not, regular pap tests for people 21 years and older is a part of reproductive and sexual health, which matters always.
  • Go on a bomb solo date! Then after, treat yourself to an STI test. Most STIs can be dormant so they may not show any symptoms. Stay up-to-date with your STI status!

No matter how you enjoy Single Awareness Day, make sure you take a moment to give yourself the love you deserve—that’s a lot.
