Planned Parenthood South Texas is proud to offer transgender hormone therapy at all our locations in San Antonio, Harlingen, and Brownsville. Para información en español oprima aquí.
You can request an appointment online through our patient portal, which is best viewed on a desktop computer. You can also call the Planned Parenthood health center nearest you at 800-230-7526 to schedule an appointment. If you would like to call a specific clinic, please click here for a list of our health centers.
At your first visit, we will review your medical history and draw any needed lab tests. If you need an exam, we can also perform one. We will provide you with the patient education you need to ensure you know what to expect when taking hormones. Depending on your medical history, we will either prescribe the hormones to you at your first visit or wait to prescribe the hormones until we get your lab results back. When you receive your prescription, you may have it filled at the pharmacy of your choice.
Please note: If you are receiving injectable hormones, you will be asked to watch a video on giving yourself a self-injection. If you need help giving yourself an injection, you may return to our clinic for assistance (an office visit fee may apply).
Tip for Your First Visit:
To save you time, please print and fill-out the Initial Intake Form. If you have a copy of your medical records, please bring them with you.
After receiving your initial prescription for hormones, you will need to have a follow-up visit every three months (for at least the first year), to ensure the hormones are working for you and to make any adjustments in the prescription if needed.
Yes, you are able to transfer your hormone care to Planned Parenthood South Texas. You will still require an initial office visit so we can get your medical history, do any needed lab work, and provide patient education. Also, please make sure to bring information about your current prescription and dosage (as well as your medical records from your previous provider) to your initial visit. If you are unable to bring your medical records, we can request these from your previous provider, but please be aware this may delay care.
You will be charged for an office visit and for any lab work or exams needed. Planned Parenthood accepts and can bill insurance. If you do not have insurance, please speak with our staff about payment options. You will also be responsible for paying for the hormones at the pharmacy.
For our transgender hormone services, we see patients ages 18 years of age and older.
In addition to offering hormone therapy, we also provide other health services in an inclusive and gender-affirming environment:
STD testing & treatment
PREP - Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis, an HIV prevention method
UTI testing & treatment
