Habla Con Tu Hermana is a promotora-led program that provides community health education and helps to remove barriers for women with access to family planning and other health care services at Planned Parenthood health centers in Brownsville and Harlingen.

This program is a grassroots, Latino bilingual program reaching out to adult Latinas. Our community health workers, or promotoras, provide a women’s multi-topic educational series which includes information about gynecological exams, breast health, the menstrual cycle, talking to kids about sexual health and responsibility, family planning and sexually transmitted infections.

This education occurs in the community and the workplace, but the program primarily focuses on patient navigation – a process of assisting the patient by removing barriers to accessing health care services. Promotoras help direct community members to Planned Parenthood by answering questions about health care services and funding options, assisting patients with clinic paperwork and providing emotional support for better health.

A signature component of Habla Con Tu Hermana is Clinica Festival, a store front FREE mini health fair held multiple times per year with a radio remote, festivities, art & crafts for the entire family and walk-in appointments.

We welcome the participation of other education and health-focused organizations at Clinica Festival. For more information, email [email protected]
