Emmy award-winning journalist and author of “Finding Latinx: In Search of the Voices Redefining Latino Identity” Paola Ramos will be the keynote speaker at Planned Parenthood South Texas’ first annual brunch in the Rio Grande Valley on November 13, 2022.
Ms. Ramos is an intellectual heavyweight. She’s a contributor to MSNBC, Telemundo and VICE, and a host of VICE News. She served as Deputy Director of Hispanic Media for the Hilary Clinton campaign and was a political appointee in the Obama administration. She is also the daughter of media legend Jorge Ramos. In the wake of the 2016 presidential election, Ms. Ramos embarked on a cross-country quest, including the Rio Grande Valley, to understand what binds and defines the Latino community. The result was her 2020 book, “Finding Latinx: In Search of the Voices Redefining Latino Identity.” On her travels through the RGV, Ms. Ramos saw first-hand how difficult it is for people in our community to access the kind of life-changing, life-saving health services that Planned Parenthood has been providing at its health centers in Brownsville and Harlingen since 1967.
By choosing to become a sponsor, you will be supporting health care that empowers people to make decisions about their bodies and their lives — birth control, emergency contraception, cancer screening and prevention, primary care, gender-affirming hormone therapy, STD testing and treatment, fertility assistance, and so much more.
The Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade makes it abundantly clear that we cannot count on laws or courts to protect our community’s access to necessary healthcare, reproductive or otherwise. We must do so for each other. Our Planned Parenthood family is a fortress, and we will never stop protecting our patients’ health and rights. Laws and legislators come and go, but Planned Parenthood is in the Rio Grande Valley for good. With your help, we’ll continue to be the place that everyone can count on for the health care and information they need to take control of their lives, plan their futures, fulfill their potential, have children when, and if, they’re ready.
