ALBUQUERQUE, NM – While politicians take advantage of a national pandemic to place medically unnecessary restrictions on safe, legal abortion, Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains (PPRM) is expanding their services to make reproductive health care even more accessible to patients. PPRM now offers birth control pills and urinary tract infection (UTI) treatment in New Mexico via an app, Planned Parenthood Direct (PPDirect). PPRM launched the PPDirect app in Colorado last spring.

“Sexual and reproductive health care needs cannot be put on hold during a public health crisis. In these uncertain times, we are proud to use technology and innovation to reach people with the care they need, when they need it, wherever they are. Those who already face barriers to accessing care, like communities of color, people with low incomes, and young people are disproportionately affected by public health crises, and we know this time will be no different. Expanding TeleHealth is an important step to making reproductive care more accessible in New Mexico, and to continue to serve the communities who rely on us for high-quality, affordable, compassionate care. There has never been a more important time for expanding telehealth services,” said Adrienne Mansanares, Chief Experience Officer, PPRM.

New Mexico patients simply download the app, create an account, and are able to submit information for a birth control pill prescription or UTI consultation. One of PPRM’s licensed providers will respond within one day. For eligible patients, birth control pills will be mailed to them and UTI treatment will be prescribed to a local pharmacy.
