Day is a mark of reproductive freedom

DENVER – In honor of the landmark Jan. 22, 1973 U.S. Supreme Court case granting a woman’s right to privacy when making personal health care decisions including the constitutional right to an abortion, Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains along with its coalition partner Protect Families Protect Choice are hosting an anniversary celebration on Jan. 21 at the Wynkoop Brewing Company.

“The 1973 Roe v. Wade decision allows women to participate fully and equally in society,” said Vicki Cowart, CEO and president of Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains.  “Despite enduring years of attacks, this monumental decision still stands as the law of the land and remains one of the most politically significant events in Supreme Court history.  PPRM is proud to celebrate this anniversary symbolically and figuratively – many women rely on Roe to protect their health.”

WHAT:           Members of the pro-choice community will gather to celebrate the 37th anniversary of Roe v. Wade.  Free appetizers and a cash bar will be provided.

WHEN:          Jan. 21, 2010

                        5:30 – 7:30 p.m.

WHERE:       Wynkoop Brewing Company
                        1634 18th Street
                        Denver, CO 80202

Members of the press do not need to RSVP.

PHOTO/INTERVIEW OPPORTUNITY:  Through a visual art display, pro-choice activists attending the event will have the opportunity to express personal anecdotes, experiences or sentiments about why preserving the legal decision of Roe is important to them.  Dubbed the “Roe remembrance wall” this exhibit will depict real expressions of the pro-choice movement before and after Roe.  Additionally, PFPC leaders including PPRM’s CEO and President Vicki Cowart will be on-site and available for comment.
