Planned Parenthood North Central States’ growing Raíz program is committed to breaking down barriers in accessing health care in the Latine community. Raíz is Latine organizers working with the Latine community to build a world where everyone can get the health care they decide is best for their body in their own community. Raíz is about more than just health. It’s about justice, knowledge, and power.

History of Raíz

Raíz was created by Planned Parenthood in 2014 to build sustainable, community-organizing teams in mutual partnership with Latinx communities, by Latinxs and for Latinxs.

What Raíz Means

Root: Raíz means “root” in Spanish and symbolizes the work organizers do to connect with community members from the ground up. Power grows when we start at the roots.

Latinx & Latine

Both Latinx and Latine are gender-neutral forms of the words latino and latina to be inclusive too all gender expressions in the community. Latinx was first introduced, and as language is ever evolving, now latine is sometimes used as the vowel “e” fits easier into the Spanish language than “x.” Both terms are gender inclusive.
