The Iowa Department of Health recently released data showing that the incidence of dangerous sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in Iowa continues to increase since lawmakers excluded Planned Parenthood from the state’s family planning program.

Planned Parenthood opened a brand-new health center in Brooklyn Park, moving from a previous location to a new space just a few blocks away on Brooklyn Boulevard.

Today the Polk County District Court ruled a state law unconstitutional because it would have blocked Planned Parenthood of the Heartland from providing state-approved sex education to young Iowans through two federal grants administered by Iowa state agencies. 

Despite claims to the contrary, the bill introduced today by Sen. Suzanne Geist was not designed to protect women’s health. Instead, it could harm Nebraska women.

Iowa suffered the devastating loss of a leader for civil and human rights with the passing Iowa Supreme Court Justice Mark Cady, who strongly advocated for fair and impartial courts and is widely known for authoring the opinion affirming marriage equality.
