"This bold, beautiful three-story building makes a statement to the world, that Planned Parenthood is here for good and our doors will always remain open for our community.”

On Monday, September 14, Planned Parenthood North Central States welcomed patients in the brand new, state-of-the-art health center in the Uptown neighborhood of Minneapolis. The new health center offers a full range of sexual and reproductive health care services, including STI testing and treatment, birth control, telemedicine abortion, and more. The new health center is 33 percent larger than the previous Minneapolis location, and Planned Parenthood expects to triple the number of patients served in the next three years.

"This is a difficult time for our city—and for our whole country. As we work to rebuild our community in Minneapolis, weather a pandemic, and reckon with the history of racism in this country, this new building in Uptown is a powerful symbol of our unwavering commitment to our patients and communities. It’s a beacon of hope for everyone, a reminder that we are here for nonjudgmental, compassionate care, no matter what,” said Sarah Stoesz, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood North Central States. “This bold, beautiful three-story building makes a statement to the world, that Planned Parenthood is here for good and our doors will always remain open.”

Planned Parenthood has been providing expert health care and family planning in Minneapolis since 1931.  Minneapolis was already the organization’s most popular location, serving about 14,000 people each year with double-digit growth in recent years. The new health center also provides additional off-street parking and an updated look and feel designed based on patient feedback.

The new facility will also house education and outreach programs and the research division of PPNCS. PPNCS is the largest provider of comprehensive, evidence-based sex education for youth and adults in the state, including culturally specific programs. The PPNCS research division launched in 2015 and participates in clinical studies & social-science studies related to reproductive and sexual health care. The division recently launched the first study in the U.S. to explore a potential link between tear gas and reproductive health.

“Our Minneapolis Health Center helps us deepen our mission in this community through our health services, our medically accurate sex education programs and our expanding research in sexual and reproductive health care,” said Stoesz. “Sexual and reproductive health care needs don’t stop during a pandemic and our new health center in Uptown provides a beautiful new space to bring positive change for our patients and community.”

Planned Parenthood North Central States operates 30 health centers in Minnesota, Iowa, South Dakota and Nebraska. The organization opened a new health center in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota in the spring of 2020 and re-opened a health center in Sioux City, Iowa in the summer of 2020.
