Sexually Transmitted Infection Testing Information and Instructions

Thank you for choosing Planned Parenthood of Michigan for your reproductive and sexual health care. We strive to exceed your expectations by providing high quality, inclusive, nonjudgmental care. Our goal is to offer care that puts you in the center. We will give you information and support so you can make the best decisions for your health.

About your visit

At this visit you will meet with a licensed clinician. They will review your medical history and complete any necessary physical exam and testing to best meet your care needs. If you would like to learn more about STIs, please visit PlannedParenthood.org.

Samples are collected in the health center for most tests and then sent to an outside lab. Results are typically available in less than a week but can occasionally take longer. Rapid HIV testing is done in the health center, and results are available before the end of your visit.

If you are diagnosed with an infection at the visit or have known exposure to a treatable STI, treatment will be provided. Planned Parenthood stocks many treatments in our health centers, or you can request we send a prescription to the pharmacy of your choice. Treatments we do not stock will be sent to your pharmacy of choice.

We ask that you do not bring children to your in-person visit. We know that this is sometimes unavoidable, and we will do our best to provide you the care you need while ensuring the safety of you and everyone in our health centers.

You will be screened for COVID symptoms and exposure when you arrive. If you have any symptoms of COVID-19 or a recent high-risk exposure, please cancel and reschedule your appointment when resolved.
