Little Rock, AR – Planned Parenthood of the Heartland applauds Governor Mike Beebe’s decision to veto the unconstitutional 12-week abortion ban. This is Governor Beebe’s second veto on an abortion ban in the past two weeks.

We’re proud of his unwavering support for women’s health in Arkansas.

Statement from Planned Parenthood of the Heartland President and CEO Jill June:

“This is the second time in two weeks that Governor Beebe has been forced to veto an unconstitutional abortion ban. The 12-week ban, vetoed today, is the most extreme abortion ban in the country.

“Despite continued attacks on women’s health care from the Arkansas Legislature, Governor Beebe has remained steadfast in his support for women’s health care. Unfortunately we can’t say the same about extreme lawmakers pushing these dangerous bills.

“The sole focus of the Arkansas Legislature this session thus far has been taking away a woman’s private and personal medical decisions. Enough is enough. The health and safety of Arkansas women are on the line.

“Once again, lawmakers have a chance to do what is right by standing with Governor Beebe’s veto. This destructive legislative session can be turned around if lawmakers heed leadership and start focusing on creating jobs and fixing the economy. We encourage the Arkansas Legislature to stand with Governor Beebe and do what’s right.”

Planned Parenthood of the Heartland has served women and men of all ages since the 1930s. Today the agency offers a full range of quality reproductive health care services to residents in Arkansas, Iowa, Nebraska, and Oklahoma through 29 health centers, plus Education and Resource Centers in Des Moines, Lincoln and Omaha.
