Greater Iowa and Nebraska Affiliates Merge

***For Immediate Release**

Officials from Planned Parenthood of Greater Iowa and Planned Parenthood of Nebraska/Council Bluffs have announced that the two entities are merging, effective Sept. 1, 2009.

The new agency will be called Planned Parenthood of the Heartland, with the administration based out of Des Moines.

Jill June, the president and CEO of Planned Parenthood of Greater Iowa, and the interim head of Nebraska/Council Bluffs, will be the president and CEO of the newly merged organization. June had been leading the Nebraska affiliate since March, when Greater Iowa entered into a management contract with its Cornhusker counterpart.

“As we worked together, we saw so many similarities and opportunities between the two affiliates, that it became obvious to the respective boards that a merger should take place,” said June, who had been the head of the Iowa affiliate for the last 24 years.

The merger enables Planned Parenthood of the Heartland to expand services throughout the Heartland through the benefits of economies of scale.

“Our No. 1 priority is ensuring quality health care to an ever-growing client base,” June said. “We also will be able to expand our education and outreach programs throughout the region – something that has been growing in leaps and bounds.”

The new affiliate extends throughout Nebraska, into 86 counties in Iowa and another three counties in Illinois. There are a total of 23 health centers and employs nearly 260 employees.

Planned Parenthood of the Heartland has served women and men of all ages in the Heartland since the mid-1930s.  Today the agency offers a full range of quality reproductive health care services to residents in Nebraska, 86 Iowa counties and three counties in Illinois through 23 medical centers and Education and Resource Centers located in Des Moines, Lincoln and Omaha.
