Sadly, during the 87th Texas Legislative Session (January 2021 – May 2021), we can expect more attacks on essential health care. The right to abortion is in greater jeopardy than at any time since before the landmark 1973 Roe v. Wade decision.

But because of supporters like you, support for Roe is the highest it’s ever been, with almost 8 out of 10 Americans saying they support the right to safe, legal abortion – effectively letting politicians know that we won’t stand for attacks on reproductive health care.

On the docket this session are 49 anti-abortion bills, including House Bill 1165 and House Bill 69, which would ban abortion at 6 weeks and 12 weeks gestation, and House Bill 1432 –  extremist legislators’ answer to Gov. Greg Abbott’s request for further restricting abortion through a “Reason Ban.”

Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick and other extremist politicians also continue to push their anti-health care agenda through several channels, including in the first draft of the state budget, which increases  funding for the failing Alternatives to Abortion Program by more than $20 million. The COVID-19 pandemic and resulting economic crisis has significantly impacted the state’s budget, and – at a time when Texans desperately need more access to health care – state officials are instead prioritizing funding for fake clinics with an extremist political agenda.

Texans deserve better. And PPGC will never stop fighting to protect patients and their right to access to essential health care, including abortion –no matter what.
