Planned Parenthood of Greater Ohio Celebrates Landmark Victory for Abortion Rights with the Passage of Issue 1

Hundreds of thousands of Ohioans turned out to vote YES on Issue 1, the Right to Reproductive Freedom amendment, enshrining abortion in the Ohio State Constitution.

COLUMBUS, OHIO—After the landmark victory for abortion rights in Ohio today, with hundreds of thousands of Ohioans voting to pass Issue 1, the Right to Reproductive Freedom amendment, Planned Parenthood of Greater Ohio released the following statement:

“The passing of Issue 1 confirmed what we knew all along — the majority of Ohioans support abortion access. Despite the significant challenges our friends at Planned Parenthood Advocates of Ohio faced, from collecting 700,000 signatures, to defending democracy with the August Special Election, and combating misinformation, Ohioans made it clear that abortion is a constitutional right.

“We are proud to be with our allies and supporters on the just side of history, protecting reproductive freedom for current and future generations of Ohioans. But we know that our work is just beginning. Now, more than ever, our mission of providing critical care across the state must continue. We are committed to expanding our services and increasing access to abortion care for Ohioans and those who come to us from states with cruel abortion bans.

“Thank you for protecting reproductive freedom and safeguarding the right to make decisions that are best for our health, our lives, and our futures. We remain a beacon of hope to so many across the nation, and we are excited to advance the essential care we provide. Planned Parenthood of Greater Ohio’s doors are open. Abortion is legal in Ohio. And we are in this together.”
