ST. LOUIS — In response to Governor Parson signing Senate Bill (SB) 49 into law, Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region and Southwest Missouri released the following statement.

Statement from Yamelsie Rodríguez, president and CEO, Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region and Southwest Missouri:

By signing this harmful bill into law Governor Parson is again ignoring the heartfelt pleas of the people most impacted by his actions. Just like with abortion bans, the governor had an opportunity to follow the science and the data, but instead, he continues to lead with hate and disinformation. We are tired of saying it, but we will repeat it, ‘Politicians need to get out of our exam rooms.’

“June is a time to lift up, celebrate, and support the LGBTQ+ community and that’s exactly what we will continue doing at Planned Parenthood. To our patients and the broader trans and gender-expansive community: we are here for you. We will work with you to get the care you need in Missouri, or if you prefer, we will help you get care in Illinois, where gender-affirming care is protected under state law. No matter what, our doors remain open and we’ll do all we can to secure the care you want and need to live a dignified and authentic life.”
