WHY IS PLANNED PARENTHOOD AT SXSW 2022:

We are raising awareness that abortion access is at risk across the U.S., as are our sexual and reproductive health care rights

Texas’s six-week abortion ban and “sue thy neighbor” law has been in effect for six months. During that time, other state legislators introduced similarly harsh abortion bans, which could hurt workers, communities, and businesses.

We’ve already seen the impact on Texans and on the regional health care system. In June, the U.S. Supreme Court could overturn Roe v. Wade, the case that gave us the right to abortion.

If this happens, 36 million women of reproductive age and many others who can get pregnant, in as many as 26 states, could lose their right to abortion.

As SX attracts attendees from many of these states, people from across the U.S. will have a chance to learn about the current, national threats to our reproductive freedom and civil rights, and about the role businesses’ play in upholding essential health care access and rights.

3.

Review your company's political giving, and ask questions of your management, government, and corporate affairs teams:

Are corporate donations going to candidates who don’t support sexual and reproductive health care?

4.

Encourage your company to join the Don't Ban Equality network, which includes more than 60 national companies that have committed to support abortion access and that oppose state bans, such as S.B. 8 in Texas.

5.

Advocate for and vote for your values.

Recognize that who we vote into office has direct consequences on policies and laws.
