In response to the Supreme Court’s decision to stay the lower court’s order, Reproductive Health Services of St. Louis Region released the following statement:
Statement from Yamelsie Rodríguez, president and CEO, Reproductive Health Services of Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region:
“This is welcome news to the tens of millions of people who have held their breath to see whether yet again federal judges would abdicate their responsibility to uphold our fundamental rights to equal dignity and bodily autonomy. While we’re relieved the Supreme Court blocked the dangerous and unlawful lower-court order, which could have prevented hundreds of thousands of people each year from accessing safe and evidence-based medication abortion and jeopardized the FDA’s thorough and stringent approval process, we remain deeply concerned that anti-abortion extremists have weaponized our courts to accomplish their unpopular and anti-science goals.
“The Texas decision was not driven by science, but by anti-abortion zealots with the goal of banning abortion across the board. Mifepristone has a proven, outstanding safety and efficacy record, and we look forward to continuing to serve patients in Illinois with the care they need to make decisions about their own bodies and lives.”
