Virginia League for Planned Parenthood Opens New Health Center in East End Community of Richmond

Richmond, Virginia—The Virginia League for Planned Parenthood (VLPP) is building on its nearly 80-year history of providing essential health care throughout the Commonwealth by opening a new, state-of-the-art, conveniently located health center in the East End community that will enhance access to needed health care. The construction of the health center was made possible thanks to the generous financial support of many private donors. Patients may book appointments online or by calling 804-355-4358.

The East End Health Center located at 1122 N. 25th Street, becomes VLPP’s second site in Richmond, strategically chosen to meet growing patient needs throughout the region. The health center will provide high-quality, primary care services for patients living in and around the community regardless of income, documentation status or insurance coverage.

But more importantly, the East End community is resilient and rich with history. Building a reliable medical home allows VLPP’s team of highly-trained clinicians to treat the whole patient by providing exceptional care and allows us to support and uplift the good work already being done in the community through Peter Paul, Health Hub, Hope Pharmacy and others.

Thirty-two percent of workers in the East End rely on public transportation. In fact, travel from the East End to the Hamilton street location for care, would take the average East End resident well over one hour by public transportation. Now, we are only a few steps away.

“The new Richmond East End health center will meet a critical need in the community,” said VLPP CEO and President Paulette McElwain. “By providing essential primary care services, community education and working closely with the neighbors and leaders who are and have been serving the East End, VLPP is poised to aid in supporting the overall health and wellness of the entire region.”

The East End health center is accessible by public transportation, includes 12 exam rooms, a conference room and administrative spaces. The East End health center was financed with the generous support of private VLPP donors.

“We are thrilled to serve our patients from our new home in the East End,” said Dr. Shanthi Ramesh, Medical Director for VLPP. “Virginia League for Planned Parenthood patients often rely on us for our well-known services like birth control and STI testing but we know their health needs include primary care too. Now instead of traveling to us, we will be able to see patients closer to home making it easier and more convenient to get the high-quality care VLPP is known for. We look forward to building community with and serving the medical needs of our patients here.”

In addition to primary care, sexual and reproductive health, both Richmond locations offer COVID-19 testing by appointment by calling 804-255-4258. Testing is available regardless of insurance or documentation status or ability to pay.

Due to COVID-19, please make your appointment online or by calling 804-355-4358. For more information on VLPP or to make an appointment, visit us online. To make an appointment to be tested for COVID19, please 804-355-4358.
