MEMPHIS, TN – Planned Parenthood Greater Memphis Region is one of a coalition of more than forty Mid-South organizations, individuals and churches that have teamed up to host a documentary screening and panel discussion on the 40th anniversary of the U. S. Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision that made abortion legal for women in across the country.

“Two generations have grown up since the Roe decision who don’t remember the days when abortion was illegal, and desperate women risked their lives and sometimes died because they had no access to safe, legal abortion,” said Barry Chase, CEO of Planned Parenthood Greater Memphis Region. “That’s why promoting understanding about how the Roe decision benefitted women’s health is more important now than ever before. Planned Parenthood is pleased to be among the host organizations for this event designed to raise awareness about the significance of the Roe decision.”

The event will take place on Tuesday, January 22, 2013, at the University of Memphis’s University Center Theater. Admission is free.

The event is scheduled as follows:

6:00pm – Reception with refreshments
6:30pm – Screening of “From Danger to Dignity: The Fight for Safe Abortion”
7:30pm – Panelist Discussion and Q&A

“From Danger to Dignity: The Fight for Safe Abortion” tells the story of the movement to legalize abortion that began long before the Roe v. Wade decision in 1973.
