PPGMR Offers Free HIV Testing This Week for National HIV Testing Day

MEMPHIS, TN — In observance of this week’s National HIV Testing Day, Planned Parenthood Greater Memphis Region will offer free, confidential HIV counseling and testing at two different sites.
Wednesday evening, June 23, 2010
From 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Memphis Gay and Lesbian Community Center
892 So. Cooper Street
Friday afternoon, June 25, 2010
From 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Memphis Towers Community Room
1081 Court Avenue
Both these testing sites are open to the public. Anyone who is or has been sexually active is encouraged to be tested. More than 5,800 people in Memphis and Shelby County are living with HIV/AIDS. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that as many as one in every 5 people with HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, do not know they have the virus.
The test is painless, administered with a simple mouth swab, and results are available in about 30 minutes.
