MEMPHIS, TN — Planned Parenthood Greater Memphis Region (PPGMR) is renewing its partnership to provide monthly health columns to La Prensa Latina, the MidSouth’s premiere bilingual weekly newspaper.

Joan Carr, Director of Community Affairs for PPGMR will write the monthly columns about reproductive health, with the assistance of PPGMR’s two full-time health educators and its Spanish interpreters/translators.

Planned Parenthood has long provided reproductive health services to the Latino community of the MidSouth. PPGMR provides bi-lingual interpreters for patients who speak only Spanish, allowing them to take advantage of the family planning, STD testing and treatment, and women’s reproductive health care services that PPGMR offers.

“In 2008, 6% of our patients were Hispanic, and that proportion is growing,” said Joan Carr, Director of Community Affairs. “The partnership with La Prensa Latina gives us another way to reach out to the Latino community and give them information to help them access health care, stay healthy, and plan their child-bearing.”

“As the Hispanic population continues to grow in the MidSouth, PPGMR will continue to look for ways to serve their needs by continuing to provide interpretation services and culturally sensitive health services,” said Barry Chase, CEO of Planned Parenthood Greater Memphis Region.
