Planned Parenthood Greater Memphis Region and Friends for Life will offer free and confidential HIV testing and counseling during the Cooper Young Festival in Midtown Memphis on Saturday, September 19, 2009.
What: Free HIV Testing
When: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of First Congregational Church, 1000 So. Cooper.

Planned Parenthood representatives will conduct the testing from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Friends for Life Corp. will conduct testing from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Both agencies will provide OraQuick testing that is administered with a simple mouth swab (no needles!), and results are available in about 30 minutes.
Everyone who is or has been sexually active is encouraged to be tested. More than 5,700 people in Memphis and Shelby County are currently living with HIV/AIDS. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that as many as one in every 5 people who are infected with HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, do not know they have the virus.
