KISS ME, KATE PREVIEW PERFORMANCE TO BENEFIT PPGMR
For Immediate Release: May 8, 2015
Preview of Broadway Show Promises Great Food, Great Drink & Exclusive Sneak Peek
Theatre lovers will gather on Thursday, May 7th at Playhouse on the Square for a reception and a magical night of theater with a preview performance of the Broadway hit, Kiss Me, Kate! The evening is sponsored by Carol and Gene Katz and will benefit Planned Parenthood Greater Memphis Region.
“We are so grateful to our generous sponsors,” said Ashley Coffield, CEO of PPGMR. “While Kiss Me, Kate will be performed from May 8th through May 31st, we feel extremely honored to be the recipients of the very first showing on May 7th. We hope friends and supporters of Planned Parenthood will purchase a ticket or ten and spread the word.”
Kiss Me, Kate is a clever musical written in response to Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Oklahoma! The story involves the conflict between the show's director, producer, and star, and his leading lady who happens to be his ex-wife. On stage, the two divorced - and flamboyantly egocentric - performers find themselves starring opposite each other in a musical version of Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew. However, off the stage, the characters’ conflict is just as explosive. Enjoy the twist of a ‘play within a play’ in Cole Porter and Sam and Bella Spewack’s tribute to the theatre and all its greasepaint and glory.
Musical numbers include: Always True to You (In My Fashion), Another Op’nin, Another Show, Brush Up Your Shakespeare, I Hate Men, Too Darn Hot, and Wunderbar,
The reception begins at 6:30 p.m., and includes hors d’oeuvres, desserts, and drinks. Tickets are $50 and may be purchased here https://app.etapestry.com/onlineforms/MemphisPlannedParenthood/tickets.html.
