PLANNED PARENTHOOD SUPPORTS SISTERREACH AND THE REMOVAL OF RACIST ANTI-CHOICE BILLBOADS IN MEMPHIS
For Immediate Release: May 15, 2015
Planned Parenthood Greater Memphis Region publicly lends our support to SisterReach, Tennessee’s Memphis-based reproductive justice organization, and its efforts to have anti-women, racist billboards produced by Prolife Across America taken down immediately. These billboards do not address women but intentionally erase them from the conversation, ignoring their experiences. These advertisements are designed to marginalize, shame, and disgrace African-American women, and drive a wedge between them and African-American men with regard to reproductive health and decision-making. We urge our supporters to see through these bullying tactics and call Clear Channel to demand the billboards be taken down immediately. Women should not be subjected to intimidation and persecution for personal decisions regarding their bodies, regardless of race, creed or religion. Remarkably, in the twenty-first century, African-American women are still being targeted by bigoted attacks. #TakeItDown
