Vasectomy Consultation Appointment Preparation

Please note: During your appointment, you will speak with a health professional to discuss your medical information and your options. You will have the opportunity to ask questions. Pre-Vasectomy Counsel: A pre-vasectomy counsel is required if you are getting your vasectomy with us or through a referral.

If you are in the Rogue Valley, this will be an informational session and you will receive referral information in the mail following your appointment.

If you are in Lane County, this will be a short physical exam and an informational session and you will receive referral information or preparatory information in the mail following your appointment.  

What to bring:

  • Your photo ID

  • Documents for Reproductive Health Access Fund (if needed)

  • Your health insurance information (if any)

  • Payment for your visit (if any)

Vasectomy: A vasectomy can be scheduled following a pre-vasectomy counsel at our Eugene-Springfield Regional Health Center. Depending on what insurance or funding is paying for your visit, there may be a 30 day waiting period.

If you have scheduled a vasectomy with Planned Parenthood of Southwestern Oregon and have not received your vasectomy information packet in the mail prior to your visit, please call us at 541-344-9411.

Instructions:

  • Take a shower daily for 3 days prior to your vasectomy. Wash penis and scrotum well with Hibiclens© the day of your vasectomy.

  • Trim any hair from the front side of your scrotum.

  • Eat a light meal before you come to the clinic.

  • DO NOT use any alcohol or drugs for 24 hours before your vasectomy.

  • DO NOT use aspirin for one week prior to your vasectomy.

  • Plan to be at the clinic for at least 1 ½ hours.

  • Plan to do no physical work or heavy exercise for 7 days after your procedure

What to bring:

  • Your photo ID

  • Payment for your visit (if any)

  • Close-fitting jockey style briefs, jockstrap, or athletic supporter

  • Medication prescribed by physician at the time of your pre-vasectomy counsel. Take medication as directed just prior to checking in for your vasectomy appointment

  • Someone to drive you home.
