Education for People with Disabilities

Planned Parenthood recognizes that people with disabilities have unique sex education needs. There is a disproportionately high occurrence of sexual assault for people with disabilities; they face educational challenges, and very often, lack of access to the sex education they both need and deserve. PPSO offers a specialized series of lessons specifically for people with disabilities.

Lessons are modular and adaptive. They are designed with attention to cognitive, emotional, social, and physical concerns of each group.

Content designed for people with disabilities includes:

• Sexual Hygiene

• Reproductive Anatomy and Physiology

• Puberty

• Healthy Relationship Skills, including Communication and Boundaries

• Managing Sexual Feelings

• Sexual Decision Making

• Consent

• Abuse Prevention, including Internet Safety

• Pregnancy

• Birth Control

• Sexually Transmitted Infections
