Statement from Planned Parenthood Southwest Ohio
For Immediate Release: Oct. 24, 2014
Statement from Planned Parenthood Southwest Ohio regarding its response to correspondence from the Ohio Department of Health concerning its Ambulatory Surgical Facility at 2413 Auburn Avenue, Cincinnati.
Oct. 24, 2014
At Planned Parenthood of Southwest Ohio we work every day to make sure women receive the quality care they need in a safe, respectful environment. Ensuring the health and safety of Planned Parenthood patients is central to our mission and fundamental to every person who works at Planned Parenthood.
In compliance with Ohio law, Planned Parenthood Southwest Ohio has an agreement with a set of local physicians who will provide any emergency care our patients need at a nearby local hospital. We submitted our initial application to the Ohio Department of Health more than a year ago seeking approval for this agreement and have continued to update ODH on the status of our services and our ongoing compliance with this law. To date, the Ohio Department of Health has not responded to this request or rule on our application. We hope and expect that ODH will soon approve our request and make clear that women in the Cincinnati region will still have access to safe and legal abortion.
Data from the Centers for Disease Control and other sources shows that abortion has more than a 99 percent safety record. And studies show that women experience complications less than one percent of the time. Planned Parenthood health centers have rigorous standards and training for staff as well as emergency plans in place because women’s safety is our first priority. And we don’t stop there — we constantly evaluate new research in the field, new recommendations from medical associations, new technologies, and feedback from patients, experts and regulators to continue improving our practices.
Planned Parenthood Southwest Ohio remains committed to doing everything in our power to be here for the patients that rely on us for safe, compassionate, respectful care as well as information, support and education.
