Rabbi Lewis Kamrass Appointed to National Clergy Advisory Board

Cincinnati, OH:  Planned Parenthood Southwest Ohio Region announces the appointment of Rabbi Lewis H. Kamrass to the Planned Parenthood Federation of America Clergy Advisory Board.  This Clergy Advisory Board established the Planned Parenthood Pro-Choice Religious Network in 1994, an outgrowth of a national grassroots movement among those who believe there is a spiritual basis for reproductive freedom.  Members strive to demonstrate that religious political extremists do not speak for all religions or all religious Americans.

The network seeks to educate the public about the historic and widespread support within the religious community for Planned Parenthood, family planning, and the pro-choice position. Members speak in communities and government chambers throughout the U.S. in support of reproductive freedom, and identify and encourage pro-choice clergy and people of faith to speak out.

“Rabbi Kamrass, a former member of the Planned Parenthood Southwest Ohio Region (PPSWO) Board of Directors, is a steadfast supporter of the mission, core values and operation of PPSWO.  As a result of his work on the PPSWO Board, he founded an affinity group called Clergy for Reproductive Freedom.  He has shown distinguished leadership in the Greater Cincinnati community by raising awareness of the theological and moral basis for advocating reproductive rights and women’s health,” says PPSWO CEO Becki Brenner.

Rabbi Kamrass is the Senior Rabbi of Isaac M. Wise Temple of Cincinnati, where he has spent his entire rabbinate of twenty-two years.  As Cincinnati’s largest synagogue with a membership of 1,400 families, Wise Temple enjoys significance by virtue of both its historical prominence in the Reform Movement, as well as its downtown facility—a national historic landmark and a 141 year-old American Jewish Treasure.  Under Rabbi Kamrass’ leadership, Wise Temple’s unique program for social action has won several national awards for innovative programming.  Wise Temple is noted for its outstanding Lifelong Jewish Learning environment for adults, as well as children.
