Planned Parenthood Southwest Ohio Receives Historic $7.5 Million from Mackenzie Scott for Health Care Access in the State
For Immediate Release: March 25, 2022
CINCINNATI, OH– Today Planned Parenthood Southwest Ohio announced a $7.5 million gift from MacKenzie Scott in support of local reproductive health care and health equity in southwest Ohio.
This comes as part of a national initiative by Scott and her team to donate $275 million to Planned Parenthood and 21 affiliates.
This gift is the largest by an individual donor in the history of the organization. During such a pivotal time for access to abortion care and sexuality education in Ohio, this donation sends a message that access matters–despite facing increased barriers like never before.
Mackenzie Scott and team understand the time to act is now, in Ohio and beyond.
“Our team’s focus over these last nine months has included some new areas, but as always our aim has been to support the needs of underrepresented people from groups of all kinds. The cause of equity has no sides.
Nor can it have a single solution. Equity can only be realized when all people involved have an opportunity to help shape it.” Scott says in her announcement released earlier this morning.
Right now, Ohio is poised to ban abortion in the state outright. This extraordinary gift will ensure that Planned Parenthood Southwest Ohio continues to provide vital health care and education to all who need it.
Statement from Kersha Deibel, President & CEO, Planned Parenthood Southwest Ohio Region:
“We are so grateful to Ms. Scott for investing in reproductive health care and sex education in our community especially at such an intensely critical time…This transformational gift is a powerful statement about the importance of health equity and we intend to use it to ensure the sustainability of our organization even, and especially, in the face of the incredible challenges that lie ahead. Ms. Scott’s support helps to ensure we can and will continue to fight back against these dangerous attacks on people’s health and lives. Our mission is too important.”
