Wine Tasting & Book Release Party
For Immediate Release: Jan. 30, 2014
Planned Parenthood supporters gather for wine tasting, book release party
More than 50 supporters of Planned Parenthood of Southwest and Central Florida gathered at the dramatic Guy Peterson-designed home of Nancy and Terry Turner to celebrate the release of Leslie Glass’s latest novel, “Sleeper;” sample wines from Oregon, where the book is set; and enjoy delicious hors d’oeuvres courtesy of The Bijou Café. Leslie – who donated signed copies of her book for all of the attendees – discussed the Sarasota criminal case behind the story, explained how a U.S. Treasury agent in the book came to be named “Marjorie Peter,” and encouraged everyone to continue their vital support of Planned Parenthood’s work.
Additionally, the participants were treated to an informal presentation by members of Planned Parenthood’s SOURCE Teen Theatre troupe, led by director/producer KT Curran. High school students Lori Coggins, Christina Norcia, Jack Polubinski and Tamera Williams talked about the productions they’re currently working on and how teen audiences react to their pregnancy-prevention and responsible decision-making plays.
In attendance were Board member Carolyn Johnson and her husband, Bob; Board member Gerri Aaron with daughter, Alison Aaron, and Marvin Albert; Weta Cannon; Caren Lobo; Cornelia Matson; Phil and Marion Nelson; Betty Schoenbaum; and Planned Parenthood President/CEO Barbara Zdravecky.
All proceeds from the event will benefit the SOURCE Theatre, an outreach education program of Planned Parenthood of Southwest and Central Florida. Each year, The SOURCE reaches thousands of youth and adult audiences – at schools, churches, theaters and community groups – with innovative and award-winning productions focusing on pregnancy and disease prevention, alcohol and drug use, HIV/AIDS, dealing with peer pressure, and taking responsibility for one’s actions. Through this unique theater and life skills training program, SOURCE participants and audience members are armed with the information they need to make safe and responsible choices.
