Planned Parenthood’s Annual Dinner

Celebration a Smashing Success

On Tuesday, February 23, 2010, more than 500 members of the community came together at the Sarasota Municipal Auditorium for Planned Parenthood of Southwest and Central Florida’s 44th Annual Dinner Celebration. Attendees bid furiously on silent auction items, enjoyed delicious Cornish game hen and cocktails courtesy of Michael’s On East, and were entertained by TV screenwriter, comedienne, author and contestant on the upcoming season of “The Celebrity Apprentice,” Carol Leifer.

During the event, Florida State Rep. Keith Fitzgerald – who earned a standing ovation from the crowd – was honored for his commitment to comprehensive sex ed and greater access to reproductive health care; SOURCE Theater participants Matt Nations and Beau Williams were presented with Planned Parenthood’s Youth Courage Award; Planned Parenthood Federation of America President Cecile Richards gave an update on health care reform; and our local Planned Parenthood President/CEO Barbara Zdravecky provided an inspirational update on our Planned Parenthood affiliate.

The event netted more than $140,000 to support Planned Parenthood’s work throughout the community. Additionally, after the event, Planned Parenthood donated centerpiece bags filled with hundreds of dollars worth of baby clothes, food and wipes to Sarasota nonprofit organization Mothers Helping Mothers.

Co-chairs were Sally Yanowitz and Michael Shelton.
