Planned Parenthood Receives National Recognition for Clinical Training and Public Affairs
For Immediate Release: Nov. 12, 2014
[Sarasota, FL] – Planned Parenthood of Southwest and Central Florida (PPSWCF) last week received a prestigious Affiliate Excellence Award for Clinical Training. The award was given during the Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) National Conference held in Washington, DC.
PPSWCF’s medical education program provides opportunities for medical education in reproductive and sexual health for many types of health professional trainees, including but not limited to resident physicians, medical students, nurse practitioner and physician assistant students, nursing students, and sonography students.
Their medical education program has grown significantly in the last three years; four to five years ago, PPSWCF had less than five trainees each year, most of whom were nurse practitioner students with a few medical students. In the last two years, they have hosted over 30 trainees, and while continuing to train medical and nurse practitioner students, they expanded training opportunities to physician assistant, ultrasound tech, nursing, health care administration, and medical assisting students.
Additionally, as a member of the Florida Association of Planned Parenthood Affiliates (FAPPA), PPSWCF was awarded an Affiliate Excellence Award for Public Affairs. This award was given in recognition of the statewide work done with the “Vote No on 6” committee. Spearheaded by FAPPA, Vote No on 6 worked with over 70 national and statewide organizations, logged more than 2,740 volunteer hours (in less than five months) and raised over $4 million to educate Floridians about Amendment 6.
