Congratulations to Gerri Aaron on Her Honorary Doctorate
For Immediate Release: Nov. 12, 2014
[Sarasota, FL] — Planned Parenthood of Southwest and Central Florida congratulates Gerri Aaron, an immediate past board member for the affiliate and a noted community philanthropist, on the receipt of an honorary doctorate from Arcadia University, based in Glenside, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Philadelphia.
Aaron, who is the co-founder of the Dan Aaron Parkinson’s Disease Foundation and the Dan Aaron Stay Fit Clinic in the department of Physical Therapy at Arcadia University, shared the story of her late husband Dan at the commencement on May 16, 2014 and of his harrowing emigration from Nazi Germany to the United States to become one of the founders of Comcast Corporation.
She also spoke of the importance of cooperation, collaboration, charity, and compassion and urged graduates to “…learn to give back. Embark on humanitarian giving now. It may hurt at first but oh, what a lovely feeling charity will become. And…always have compassion in your hearts. If you don’t, you will have the worst kind of heart trouble.”
Ms. Aaron, in addition to her philanthropy in the Philadelphia area, is also a noted benefactor to the Suncoast community. In addition to being an immediate past board member at Planned Parenthood of Southwest & Central Florida, she serves on the boards of directors of the American Jewish Committee, Jewish Family & Children’s Services of the Suncoast Inc., Sarasota Orchestra, and the TREE Foundation. She has received several awards for her community activism and philanthropic efforts, including the Human Relations Award from the West Coast Florida Region of the American Jewish Committee in 2011, the Sarasota County Arts Council’s Nancy Roucher Annual Arts Education Award in 2010, and the National Council of Jewish Women’s Women in Power Award in 2009.
Planned Parenthood of Southwest & Central Florida applauds Ms. Aaron on this new and well-deserved honor.
