November 15 marked the start of a new enrollment period for health insurance under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and Planned Parenthood of Southwest and Central Florida is helping people in the Fort Myers, Tampa, Saint Pete, and Sarasota areas take charge of their health with the information and tools to get covered during the three-month enrollment period (November 15, 2014 to February 15, 2015).

More than 48 million women have already benefited from access to fully covered women's health services thanks to the Affordable Care Act's preventive health benefits. One in seven ACA Marketplace enrollees is a women between the ages of 18 and 34 and millions of women now have access to birth control, routine well-woman exams, breast and cervical cancer screenings, and mammograms for women over 40 without copays or other out-of-pocket expenses.

Planned Parenthood of Southwest and Central Florida is working to educate the public about the Affordable Care Act and help individuals and families sign up for health coverage. Certified Application Counselors, who go through an 8-hour training before they begin assisting the public, will be stationed in Planned Parenthood health centers throughout the open enrollment period to help consumers understand their options and sign up for health plans that fit their needs.
