Here at Planned Parenthood we believe that everybody deserves access to accurate health information in order to better their lives and futures.

We are happy to offer classes on a variety of subjects from reproductive health to general well-being. If you are an organization that would like to table or offer to conduct a class, please contact us at [email protected]

Why we're here

Planned Parenthood South Texas created the Education & Training Center to help surrounding communities access classes and resources that can help them make informed decisions about their health and lives.

PP Services presentation and Introduction to the Habla Con Tu Hermana Educational Health Series

Participants will learn about our health care services, patient financial assistance and case management work that supports the immediate needs of the patients/community members.  As well, participants will learn about Habla’s multi-topic learning opportunities with community health workers (CHWs) that are provided for community/patient groups. 

Reproductive Anatomy

Participants will learn the basics about their reproductive anatomy to begin building a foundation of understanding about the function and correct terminology.

Menstrual Cycle and Fertility Awareness

Participants will learn the stages of the menstrual cycle including menstruation, ovulation, fertile days, and less fertile days and the importance of having good hygiene to include the effects of feminine products, diet, chronic illness and medications.

Family Planning Options (Birth Control)

Participants will be able to learn about the options available to control their fertility and have an understanding about how each method works to prevent pregnancy using the 5’ATIONS Pregnancy model developed by Planned Parenthood.  Each method discussed will also include the following information: availability, estimated cost, advantages, disadvantages, side-effects, effectiveness and its usage.  

Breast Health

Participants will get informed about the importance of self-awareness, and will understand the three parts of breast care such as: breast self-awareness, clinical breast exam and mammography.  Each participant will also have an opportunity to practice the breast exam utilizing a multi-type breast model which has lumps.

Let’s Talk

How to talk to your kids about their sexuality, sexual health and responsibility - participants will be encouraged to begin or continue talking with their children about sexuality.  Participants will receive Planned Parenthood’s 5 tips for talking, be given an opportunity to share experiences and learn of other resources that exist to continue these ongoing conversations, in hopes that our youth have a safe space to talk, continue talking and develop into responsible healthy young adults. 

Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD’s)

Participants will have an opportunity to discuss risky behaviors that transmit diseases such as HIV/AIDS, Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Herpes, HPV-Genital Warts, Syphilis and Pubic Lice.  Participants will learn information about how to reduce the risk and the importance of partner communication.

Well Health Exam

Participants will receive information about the significance of having cervical cancer screenings with HPV and/or pap tests, pelvic exam and clinical breast exam.  During the class participants will be shown pictures and instruments to help participants understand the different parts of the visit and encourage patient-nurse communication at the time of a visit.
