There are no words to express how grateful we feel to have had more than 200 people join us at our first ever annual RGV brunch. The room was filled with energy and power, and we are honored to stand in solidarity with so many friends and social justice warriors.
Frontera Fund, South Texans for Reproductive Justice, La Unión del Pueblo Entero (LUPE), Friendship of Women, Good Neighbor Settlement House, ACLU Texas, South Texas Equality Project, Brownsville LGBTQ+ Task Force, Planned Parenthood Texas Votes, Planned Parenthood Raiz, Trucha RGV, Texas Freedom Network, Texas Rising, Valley AIDS Council, Angry Tias and Abuelas and more organizations that are doing the work that we care so deeply about came together at this brunch to send one clear message to every politician who thinks that they can strip us of our human rights and our bodily autonomy: WE WON’T BACK DOWN.
As our extraordinary speaker, Paola Ramos, said:
“When walls go up, you’ve gone around; when asylum laws have been gutted, you’ve stretched your hands … Because they know — like people in the Valley know — that you cannot depend on others to fight for what’s right. You can’t depend on government, you can’t depend on courts. It’s this community that has your back.”
We hope this event brought you the hope you needed to continue fighting for our rights and for the rights of future generations. To quote again from Paola Ramos: “Freedom is always worth fighting for — even when the outcome is uncertain.”
