For Immediate Release: May 19, 2014
(West Palm Beach) - Lillian Tamayo, Planned Parenthood of South Florida and the Treasure Coast (PPSFTC) President/CEO, announced that Michelle Fowler has been promoted to Chief Operating Officer and Cory Neering has been named Vice President of Education for the agency, which covers eight counties from Indian River through the Keys.
Ms. Fowler began her career in banking, and after having progressive leadership roles over six years, left to pursue a career in human resources. Over a twelve-year period, Ms. Fowler has worked for several publicly traded corporations, including Ocwen Financial Corporation and WCI Communities, Inc., spearheading a full spectrum of human resources and project management. In her previous role as Vice President of Human Resources at PPSFTC, she was responsible for all human resources and organizational development functions and ensuring their alignment with the organization’s strategic goals and objectives. Ms. Fowler graduated from Florida Atlantic University with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management.
Mr. Neering began his career with Planned Parenthood in 1998 and most recently served as Vice President for Youth Services where he has been instrumental in expanding the program into a large-scale continuum of care that connects over 22,000 teens annually with education, counseling and health care needed to prevent unplanned pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections. Mr. Neering also helped found the agency’s Faith in Action Improving Today’s Health (FAITH) program, which has served 40 organizations by combining the spiritual guidance of the faith community with Planned Parenthood’s health education expertise. Mr. Neering is AASECT Certified (American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors & Therapists) and graduated from Florida Atlantic University with a Bachelor’s in Sociology and holds a Masters in Science in Organizational Management and Leadership from Springfield College in Massachusetts.
Planned Parenthood has received a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator, America's largest independent charity evaluator for seven consecutive years. Receiving four out of a possible four stars from Charity Navigator indicates that an organization excels, as compared to other charities in America, in successfully managing the finances of the organization in an efficient manner. Only 2 percent of the charities rated by Charity Navigator have received at least 7 consecutive 4-star evaluations.
“We are proud to consistently execute our mission in a fiscally responsible way that outperforms most other charities in America,” said Tamayo. “This is a testament to the exceptional skills of my colleagues and the efficiency of our programs. We are delighted to have a talented colleague like Michelle serving as Chief Operating Officer and Cory serving as Vice President of Education to ensure we continue carrying out our mission effectively.”
