Statement by Lillian Tamayo

President/CEO of Planned Parenthood of South Florida and the Treasure Coast

“Planned Parenthood’s Vero Beach charity event scheduled for tonight has been cancelled.  We are saddened that Oak Harbor Club’s last minute notification to no longer allow the charity event to be held at their facility has a profound impact on our community."

“While Oak Harbor Club is not responsible for the political motivations of a small number of extremist individuals working to close Planned Parenthood’s doors, we are still deeply disappointed that the Club’s decision to bow to pressure negatively impacts other Vero Beach community members such as our patients and donors who are being denied access at the last minute to a charity event that was raising much needed funds to provide preventive health care and education."

“There is a coordinated and highly political effort to undermine Planned Parenthood and the preventative health care and education we provide. We understand how difficult it can feel to stand up against the intimidation of bullies, but we continue to urge community members to reject this dangerous attempt to eliminate access to commonsense family planning, sexual health education and legal health care."

“This latest attack on women’s health at the local and national level is the result of extremists seeking to take away health care from women.  It is unconscionable that they continue their highly political efforts to undermine Planned Parenthood and the health care we provide.  They have a clear mission to eliminate family planning, birth control, and legal abortion. Simply put, their goal is to prevent women from accessing reproductive health care services. That is unacceptable."

“For more than 90 years, building healthy communities has been Planned Parenthood’s mission. Every day we help women, men and families get the health tools and information and above all the care and compassion they need to prevent unintended pregnancies – or to plan for families when they are ready."

“Every day we supply women with the most sophisticated instrument in medicine, accurate information, which can help them make the best decisions about their health. We’re here with an open mind, a caring touch and extraordinarily sophisticated tools and expertise."

“With the support of our generous donors and community partners, we will continue to move forward providing our trusted health care services, expert sexual health education and passionate advocacy.  The community will always be able to count on Planned Parenthood.”
