(WEST PALM BEACH) –An anonymous $500,000 donation to Planned Parenthood of South Florida and the Treasure Coast allows the trusted health care provider to expand access to critical reproductive health care and education services.  During this time of economic uncertainty, family planning funding is an investment in the health and well being of our community with clear benefits not only for individual women and their families, but also is a commonsense public health investment.

“The generosity of this gift is greatly appreciated and recognizes that Planned Parenthood is on the front lines of health care delivery providing basic preventative health care,” says Lillian A. Tamayo, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood of South Florida and the Treasure Coast.  “There is an overwhelming need for affordable reproductive health services and comprehensive sex education in our community and this gift helps make that possible.”

Ms. Tamayo announced the news of the anonymous gift Thursday morning during a grand opening celebration at Planned Parenthood’s new Boca Raton health center, which was made possible by the donation.  Services available at the new Boca Raton health center will include gynecological exams, cervical cancer detection, birth control access, HIV and sexually transmitted infection testing, and other related reproductive health care services.  The public can schedule appointments at the Boca Raton health center or one of the other seven South Florida and Treasure coast locations by calling 800-230-PLAN or visiting http://www.ppsoflo.org/ to schedule appointments online.

“This gift demonstrates the power of one individual to make an extraordinary impact on our community’s access to basic health care,” continued Tamayo.  “While our donor chooses to remain anonymous, they hope this inspires others to help double this donation to allow Planned Parenthood to open additional health centers throughout the region.”

Planned Parenthood of South Florida and the Treasure Coast is the largest affiliate in the state of Florida, serving eight counties including Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade, Monroe, Okeechobee, Indian River, Martin, and St. Lucie.
