Preparing for your visit: 

Thank you for choosing Planned Parenthood California Central Coast as your health care provider. 

To ensure the best experience possible we have provided a list of instructions to help you prepare for your visit.

Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) Testing

In 2018 California saw a record high for all STIs.  California Department of Public Health recommends annual testing for all patients at ongoing risk for STI.  We provide a full range of tests for sexually transmitted infections.  When you visit our Health Center, we will assist you in determining the tests that are appropriate for you.  

For your visit:

  • Please bring a valid photo ID
  • We need your Medi-Cal, CenCal, Gold Coast, Family Pact or insurance card at the time of your visit.  If you call us with that information ahead of time it will expedite the process and reduce your time in the health center. 
  • Payment is expected at the time of visit.  We happily accept cash, Visa, Mastercard or Discover.  We are not able to accept checks or American Express.
  • For their comfort and safety children must always be accompanied by an adult other than the patient.

Urinary Tract Infection

Please refrain from taking over the counter medications before your visit.  The medication may interfere with test results. 

For your visit:

  • We need your Medi-Cal, CenCal, Gold Coast, Family Pact or insurance card at the time of your visit.  If you call us with that information ahead of time it will expedite the process and reduce your time in the health center. 
  • Payment is expected at the time of visit.  We happily accept cash, Visa, Mastercard or Discover.  We are not able to accept checks or American Express.
  • For their comfort and safety children must always be accompanied by an adult other than the patient.

Surgical Abortion/In-Clinic Abortion

Surgical abortion is provided up to 16 weeks in pregnancy.  We offer several sedation options including moderate sedation.  Moderate sedation does not put you to sleep but will make you more relaxed and is given directly into your vein. 

Information regarding your visit:

  • Expect your visit to last from 2 to 5 hours.  In addition to the procedure, during your visit you will receive a vaginal ultrasound, lab work, options education and contraception information.
  • You may eat a light meal prior to coming to your appointment.
  • All patients who receive sedation must bring a driver with them at check in.  It is recommended that all patients 14-16 weeks pregnant receive moderate sedation.
  • We recommend you wear loose comfortable clothing and underwear with a full back. 
  • Remove all mouth and tongue piercings.
  • Remove nail polish or acrylic nail from at least one finger.
  • No nonprescription drugs or alcohol for 24 hours prior to your appointment.
  • If you are not allergic, taking 800 mg of ibuprofen the night before and again the morning of your visit will assist in making you more comfortable during the visit.  Aspirin is not recommended up to seven days prior to the visit.
  • For their comfort and safety, please do not bring children with you to this appointment. 
  • It is possible you may encounter protestors.  Protestors have the right to demonstrate, they do not have the right to interfere with your access to services.  You do not have to engage with them or accept any literature.  If they block your entrance or engage in illegal activity, please notify the health center staff.

Hormonal Birth Control

We are happy to see you for hormonal birth control.  Hormonal birth control can be provided on an annual basis with a provider visit one time per year to review your medical history and see how you are doing with your method.

IUD Insertion

Visit instructions for your IUD insertion:

  • If you are using another prescription method of birth control (Pills, Patch, Ring, Depo, Implant) please continue to use it until after your IUC insertion.
  • If you do not use another prescription method, please abstain from intercourse from the time your menstrual period starts until the IUC insertion or abstain from intercourse for two weeks prior to your IUC insertion.
  • We must be able to rule out pregnancy before this method can be inserted.

For your visit:

  • Please bring a valid photo ID
  • We need your Medi-Cal, CenCal, Gold Coast, Family Pact or insurance card at the time of your visit.  If you call us with that information ahead of time it will expedite the process and reduce your time in the health center.

Implant Insertion

Visit Instructions for Implant insertion:

  • If you are using another prescription method of birth control (Pills, Patch, Ring, Depo, Implant) please continue to use it until after the implant insertion.
  • If you do not use another prescription method, please abstain from intercourse from the time your menstrual period starts until the IUC insertion or abstain from intercourse for two weeks prior to the implant insertion.

Gender Affirming Care

Thank you for choosing Planned Parenthood as your Gender Affirming Care provider

Our services are provided with informed consent.  We will review the risks and benefits of hormone therapy with you and answer any questions you may have.  Patients in our Gender Affirming Care program are not required to attend therapy or counseling or provide proof that they have done so.

Visit Instructions for Estrogen and Testosterone based Gender Affirming Care:

  • At your visit, we will review some medical history, provide you with information regarding your care, and assist you with insurance or payment issues.

Payment Options

Planned Parenthood offers services at low or no cost.  Fees are determined on a sliding scale based on your income and family size. All services are provided at the lowest cost possible.  You can call us anytime to discuss payment options. We accept Medi-Cal, CenCal, Gold Coast, and we can help sign you up for FamilyPACT, a California program that covers family planning services. 

We accept most private health plans for all our services.  If you want to use your insurance and would like assistance attaining insurance coverage please call us at 888-898-3806. Please be sure to bring your insurance card and a valid picture ID with you at the time of your visit.
